Chris on reconnecting
A former photographer, Chris’ addiction to drugs got out of control and led to bankruptcy and isolation. His obsession was to again feel the same kick, the same high as the first time, but which he never felt again. To maintain his recovery, Chris has come to understand that he has to put as much time and effort into his recovery, as he did before to get drugs.
Chris has now set himself up as a handyman renovating people’s homes. His business is going well, and the work really suits him, as he loves being his own boss, working with his hands, and enjoys the variety of work in constantly changing locations.
“I postponed my admission for a long time... I kept coming up with excuses… It was purely my fear, my insecurity and my self-image... that kept me from making contact with other people. Because active addiction is about isolation. Recovery from addiction is about connectedness."
